Solitude Mountain Resort (USA) set to host historic opening ISMF World Cup

The ISMF World Cup arrives in the United States on 6–7 December, with Solitude Mountain Resort preparing to welcome the world’s leading ski mountaineering athletes for a milestone weekend on American snow. Kicking off the season on U.S. soil represents a significant moment for the sport and for the ISMF calendar, with international athletes, teams and officials, converging in Utah for two days of high-level racing.

As the opening event of the 2025/26 season, Solitude also carries additional competitive weight. It will be the final World Cup opportunity for athletes to secure essential qualification points for Milano Cortina 2026, adding a decisive edge to the performances expected on the Sprint and Mixed Relay courses.

Preparations at Solitude have been led jointly by the resort, the U.S. Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA), and a large volunteer workforce drawn from the local community.

Sarah Cookler, Head of Sport for the USSMA and Race Director for Solitude, recognized the contribution of the community and the enthusiasm of the host resort:
“We’ve got a very large and supportive skimo community in the Salt Lake area… Solitude was really willing to jump in and do everything they can.”
