La Pierra Menta 2026 – ISMF World Championship Long Distance

From 11 to 14 March 2026, the legendary Pierra Menta will once again turn the Beaufortain mountains into the world capital of ski mountaineering. This milestone year marks the 40th edition of the iconic race, which will host the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) World Championship Long Distance Team event.

A legendary race celebrating 40 editions

For four decades, Pierra Menta has established itself as the reference competition in ski mountaineering, a must-race for the elite of the discipline. Each year, the event gathers more than 200 teams of two skiers, ready to take on one of the most demanding and exhilarating challenges in the sport.

The 2026 edition will be contested over four days, featuring an impressive 10,000 meters of positive elevation gain (D+), promising spectacular racing across the wild terrain of the Beaufortain.

International field

As the host of the ISMF World Championship Long Distance, the race will welcome national teams from 11 countries, underlining the global appeal of the event: AUT – SUI – CZE – FRA – ITA – NOR – SVK – SLO – SWE – UKR – USA

The magic of the Grand Mont

Beyond the sporting challenge, Pierra Menta is also famous for its festive and unique mountain atmosphere. Spectators climb or ski up to the iconic summit of the Grand Mont, where athletes are welcomed by thousands of fans ringing bells, cheering loudly, and sharing the famous Savoyard fondue.

This legendary climb has become one of the most unforgettable scenes in ski mountaineering.
