Impressive victories for Harrop and Bonnet in the last Individual race of the season

Thibault Anselmet finished in sixth place and secured the Overall World Cup title with one race to go.

Tromso, 14 April 2023 – The WÜRTH MODYF ISMF World Cup competition in Tromso continued today with the last Individual race of the season, an event that had the athletes competing in the amazing scenery of the Buren mountain, nearby Tromso.

Spring-like conditions, firn snow and beautiful views of the Fjords made a perfect setup for the penultimate race of the 2022/23 season. Both Men and Women had the same track with 1400 metres of elevation of gain.

Senior Women

First to take the start were the Senior Women, at 13:30. Immediately after the start, a front group was formed with all the biggest favourites. Emily Harrop (FRA) set the pace in the second climb, and nobody was able to follow her. As a result, the Frenchwoman won her first Individual race and moved to the Overall lead.

“It’s so cool to win my first Individual in this place, I’m so happy. It was a great course in excellent conditions. I tried to be strategic, to manage my effort and then in the second half of the race, I was able to make a gap,” said Harrop, who is sitting first Overall with just one point ahead of Giulia Murada.

Alba De Silvestro (ITA) crossed the finish line in second place, just 12 seconds ahead of the third, Ana Alonso Rodriguez (ESP), who saw the silver medal slip in the last meters but managed to get her second medal on Individual races this season. Giulia Murada (ITA) was fourth, while her compatriot Giulia Compagnoni (ITA) closed the Top 5 of the day. Axelle Gachet-Mollaret finished 16th, but it was enough to secure a small Cristal Globe for her in the Individual discipline.

Senior Men

The Men’s race started at 15:20, and as predicted, it was Rémi Bonnet who led the big group right from the start. After 10 minutes of race, he made a gap and went for glory in his style. The Swiss athlete won his seventh World Cup race of the season and also won the Individual World Cup.

“It was a hot day, I had to force myself to drink during the race. In the end, I had crampons, but the shape is crazy, and if you have good legs, you can do everything. It’s a very unique place for the skimo, and it feels great to win here,” said Bonnet, this year’s king of Individual races. Behind him, it was an open battle for the spots on the podium.

Almost on a sprint finish, it was Davide Magnini (Italy) who managed to get the silver medal, crossing the finish line just by half a ski ahead of Matteo Eydallin (ITA).

Fourth was another Italian athlete Michele Boscacci, while Paul Verbnjak (AUT) closed the Top 5, his best Individual race placement in the Senior category.

With his sixth place today, Thibault Anselmet (FRA) secured his victory in the WÜRTH MODYF ISMF World Cup 2022/23 Overall title. Maximilien Drion du Chapois is 128 points down with one race to go and only 100 points in play.

On Saturday, the season will close with the afternoon’s Sprint race right in the centre of Tromso. The race will start with the qualification at 13:25. The live streaming on TV.ISMF-SKI.ORG will start at 14:05.
