Biography

About the Athlete

Phillip’s journey in skiing spans more than a decade on the international stage. Initially competing on the Cross-Country World Cup circuit for over 10 years, he represented his country in three Winter Olympics before transitioning to ski mountaineering (skimo) after the 2022 Games. Encouraged by his coach to try something new, Phillip embraced skimo in 2023 and quickly set his sights on competing at the highest level in a second sport.

One of Phillip’s proudest achievements is qualifying for his fourth Winter Olympics—this time in skimo—demonstrating both his versatility and dedication as an athlete. Growing up skiing in the Australian ski fields gave him a unique perspective, shaping his development in ways distinct from most international athletes.

A typical training day for Phillip involves morning skimo sessions, often including intervals, followed by afternoon workouts that might include running, cross-country skiing, or gym sessions. Mental preparation focuses on process over outcome: he visualizes all possible race scenarios to stay calm and focused under pressure.

Outside of competitive skiing, Phillip works full-time as a Ski Patroller at Falls Creek Ski Resort and enjoys surfing, white-water kayaking, and mountain biking.

Looking ahead, his main goal is to qualify for the Milan 2026 Olympics in both skimo and cross-country skiing. Phillip hopes his journey inspires others, showing that anything is possible with courage, determination, and a willingness to try something new. And, in true Aussie spirit, he leaves fans with a cheer: “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”
